weekly recap
I thought I'd try something new. Once a week (I'm thinking Saturdays) I'm going to post a recap of my week. It'll be everything you see here, and maybe other things if I get ideas. Mainly I'll just talk about what I've been watching and buying.
Movies I watched:
The Dark Knight - Had trouble getting into the movie for some reason, but still loved it. I thought the work from the entire cast was terrific.
Redbelt - Great performance from the lead actor, but the plot is extremely odd.
Wanted - Fun action movie, but a little on the ridiculous side.
Romeo & Juliet - I don't care much for the Shakespeare language, but I enjoy the stylish look of the movie.
The Count of Monte Cristo - Has a slow start and is a bit depressing at first, but it turns into a fun adventure story.
Music I've been listening to:
Wall-E soundtrack - I've always enjoyed Thomas Newman's film scores, and I think the old songs from Hello Dolly are really neat.
Coldplay - Viva La Vida - I'm not much of a Coldplay fan, but there are some cool songs on their newest album. The standout for me is Lovers in Japan.
Books I've been reading:
Watchmen - After seeing the trailer for the upcoming movie adaptation, I finally gave in to pressure from my friends and bought the graphic novel. So far I'm loving it. I've never read comic books before, but this one is sucking me in. Can't wait to see how the movie turns out.
Twilight - My friend Jess recommended this to me and I had heard that it was getting turned into a movie, so I thought I'd give it a try. After finding out that it's a teen romance novel about vampires I was worried, but so far the similarities to Buffy the Vampire Slayer is keeping me interested.
Highlights of the week:
Joss Whedon's internet musical - I had been waiting awhile for the release of Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog, and had completely forgotten about it by the time it came out this week. It made for a very nice surprise and needless to say the quality is even better than what I expected. I loved it so much I went and bought it off i-tunes for $6. Best money I ever spent.
Watchmen trailer - Something else that surprised me. I knew nothing of the graphic novel before I saw the trailer, and it was so well crafted that I immediately went out and bought the graphic novel (as you read above). Every movie trailer should be as good as this one. It manages to avoid any spoilers, while making the movie look cooler than anything you've seen.
Home Run Derby - I'll try to avoid talking sports on the blog, but last week's home run derby was something special. Seeing Josh Hamilton go from being a former drug addict to a successful career in baseball and then to see his performance in the home run derby was just stunning.
Purchases of the week:
Wall-E interactive toy - I haven't bought a toy in years, but I loved Wall-E so much that I just had to buy the toy to have in my theater room. The toy ended up being nicer than I expected. Now I think I'll try to get the Eve toy to go along with it.
Watchmen and Buffy comics - Already talked about Watchmen, I also picked up the first volume of Buffy Season 8.
Space Invaders for Nintendo DS - I suddenly found myself with an income once again (which today I lost...) and this game was pretty cheap and got good reviews, so I bought it on impulse. Haven't had time to try it out much, but it seems to be fun.
Used DVDs - Picked up Into the Wild, Juno, and Gone Baby Gone in a deal at Blockbuster.
Movies on my "to watch" list:
Baby Mama, Hellboy 2, 21, Jumper, The Other Boleyn Girl, X-Files
And I'll end with a pic of Wall-E.
